This is August issue Yue Hui magazine cover (China only).
This issue is about high school students become college students.

Quick evening pencil doodling of Yule ball dancers! Click for bigger but still messy viewing. Might clean it up and add some colour at some point :>

Got kind of carried away with these little song-line-portrait-amulet drawings. I’ve had all these songs stuck in my head this week. Again.

Here’s a little fan-art illustration I did for one of Christine Welch’s songs 天鹅湖 (Swan Lake). The lyrics are really sweet, about a young girl who is laughed at for her great love of ballet, but she’s not afraid to walk her own road and be the best self she can be :>

大家好!I’m really excited about this news - my crazy talented, American, Taiwan-based friend Christine Welch, also known as 克麗絲叮, has brought out an album and written a book of her Chinese song lyrics and poems, with English translations, and accompanied by my illustrations! They’re on the Taiwanese bookstore Eslite site or available as pdf :D

And here’s a tiny video of her at the printer’s, with some of my images showing *m* (!!). She’s often asked about her reasons for being in Taiwan and writing/singing in Chinese, so she made this short, lovely video in response. It’s in a variety of languages, so even if you don’t speak or read Chinese, you’ll probably get the gist (and it sounds so great!).

Ronia the Robber’s Daughter" by Ilon Wikland.

Ilon Wikland (born February 5, 1930 in Tartu, Estonia) is a Swedish artist and illustrator.  She is the artist who has illustrated the greatest number of Astrid Lindgren’s books.

I love these illustrations so much. Perfect art for a perfect book.

Astrid Lindgren is one of my absolute favourite children’s book writers, and of her books one of my ultimate loves is Ronja Rövardotter (1981, I read it in fantastic Dutch translation: Ronja de Roversdochter, translated as Ronia the Robber’s Daughter in English). It’s so beautifully done, full of feeling, humour, brilliant characterisation and tension, and with incredible illustrations by Ilon Wikland which could never be topped, only sighed dreamily at for their total perfection.
I wanted to experiment with painting something bigger and backgrounded in gouache, and Ronja fan art seemed like a nice way to try that! It’s not really what I was aiming for, and there’s a whole lot I’d like to do differently, but it was fun anyway, maybe I’ll have another go at some point. In the meantime, go and read Ronja, hide from enemies with her under dense pine branches, smile quietly at the stars, and cheer at her stubborn courage!
I recently watched Maleficent and really, really liked it. Brilliant performance by Angelina Jolie, plus transforming crow *___* <3
